November 15, 2009

On this beautiful Sunday afternoon, Fighting For Kids visited the Potter Children's Home to deliver over 20 coats that were collected for the past month.  Several of the sponsors shared the day with us to present the Children with the coats and take a tour of the campus in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

As the children and families started gathering into the fellowship hall, we displayed each coat neatly folded on two tables with the Child's name and the Sponsor's name on a hand made name tag.  While everyone enjoyed the refreshments provided by Brian and Cherie Kelley,  we decided to call the children up one at a time starting with the youngest first.

Each child would eagerly race to the table to collect their new coat as their name was called.  The room was filled with smiles and laughter as each little person brought a different personality of emotions as they examined their new gift.   The Children ranged from newborn to 18 years of age.

The last coat presented, was to a young lady of 18 years who had requested a "Marine" coat.  She has plans to join the Marines once she graduates high school.  The Sponsor for this young lady was stationed in Afghanistan and upon hearing about her he immediately ordered her a beautiful Marine coat and also included a Marine hoodie.   She received the items and was very grateful and emotional.

It was a wonderful event.  I would like to thank all the Sponsors who generously gave to the Children.  I wish everyone could have been there to experience the joy on the Children's' faces.  I would like to give a special thanks to Brian and Cherie Kelley for everything they have done with this event.  Cherie worked diligently on each request sent by the Children for a coat, without Brian and Cherie, this would not have been possible.

We are now collecting coats for another Children's Home in Nashville, Tennessee.  Please email us at scottk@fightingforkids if you would like to Sponsor a child and buy a coat.
